Step 2: Add Content

To add content, click on the graphic to activate text mode and start adding your content.

 Use the round graphic to enter main idea and the arrow graphic to add sub topics or descriptions.

If you need to add more point, click on the arrow on the left border of the graphic. A slide panel for

editing text opens and you can add or edit content here.

Step 3: Customize Design

You can also change the color and style of the graphic. To do this, go to the “Design” tab; click “colors”

and choose the color of your choice, and to change the style, choose one from the SmartArt Style lists.

If you want to more variation, you can edit individual shapes of the SmartArt separately.

Click the shape and go to the “Format” tab. You can change color, style of shape,

shape effects, and also edit the text style.

Some of SmartArt Graphics styles have image placeholders.

Click on it to get the Insert Picture dialog box. Locate a picture file

you want to use and click Insert.

Alternative:

You can also create graphics in a different way.

1.       In the text box of the slide, select the content you want to transform into graphics

2.       Right click to get a menu option

3.       From the menu option, choose “Convert to SmartArt”

4.       Choose the SmartArt style you want to use

Your text will be converted to a SmartArt. Follow step 2 and step 3 to further edit and customize your graphics.

Keep experimenting with various designs, layouts, format options and other settings.

You’ll be able to start creating great graphics in no time.

Creating Animated Figures

Now, let's explore some fun things that we can do with PowerPoint. Let’s try creating some animated

 figures using PowerPoint. You can use this to illustrate certain concepts or just for fun.

Project: Blinking Smiley

1.            Go to the “Insert” tab. Click “Shapes” and choose the “oval” tool.

         Draw an oval shape for the smiley face. Use a light color for this shape. Go

         to “Format” and use “Shape fill” to select a color.

2.          Apply style and 3-D setting: Go to “Format” tab. Choose subtle style in orange

        from the “Shape Style” section. Choose effects from “Shape Effect” drop down menu.

        Or, right click on the image and choose “Format Image”.

3.          To design the eyes, choose the “moon” shape from the selection of shapes. Use white

        color for the eyes. Use the oval shape for the eyeballs and color it black. Draw another

        pair of “moon” shapes for the eyelids and color it pink or orange.

4.       For the mouth and teeth, use another set of “moon” shapes. Color the mouth in

        a darker tone. Select the mouth shape, go to “Format” tab, from the “Shape Effects”

       choose “Bevel” and use the “Riblet” option. This will give the shape the effect of having lips.

       For the other “moon” shape, color it white and thin it down to a portion of the upper section

       of the mouth.

Once you have the smiley created, add in custom animation to give it the effect of blinking. To do this, group 

the two shapes for the eyelids. 

        2.     Select the eyelid. In the “Animations” panel, click on “Add effects”, choose “Entrance” and select 

                the “Appear” animation. For the start option, choose “Start with Previous” to stat the animation on 

                loading the slide or chose “On Click” to start the animation on mouse click.

     3.       Select the eyelids again, go to “Add Effect” and choose “Exit” and select “Disappear”

        with “Start with previous” timing selection.

        4.    Right click on the animation menu item and select “Show Advanced Timeline”.

               Click on the arrow icon in the timeline and drag along it to change the start time for the animation.

               Position the second animation (Disappear) after the end point of the first animation.
